2023 Genesis G90 gets powerful hybrid model
The Genesis G90 is arguably the best car that no one knows about. It competes with super luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8. It offers a shocking amount of features for a lower price than its rivals. The best thing most full-size sedans can do is look brutal, but the new 2023 model is nothing short of gorgeous.

About the only complaints our test driver was able to resolve after spending time with it was that it lacks a hybrid model and the neighbors may not be as impressed with a Genesis as they are with a Mercedes.

We can now scratch one out. A hybrid is coming.

The 2023 G90 will be available with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 mated to a 48-volt hybrid system with an electric supercharger to add power and fuel efficiency. The model has four-wheel drive and uses an 8-speed automatic transmission. We don’t know the price yet. The current G90 starts at $74,950, plus a $1,095 freight charge to bring it here from South Korea).

Documents Genesis has filed with the US EPA say the new engine is good for 420 horsepower — a good jump from the 365 found in the G90’s current 3.3-liter V6 and a match for the V8 that Genesis made available. It’s rated at 17 mpg in the city, 24 on the highway and 20 combined. Those aren’t great numbers for a hybrid, but they match what the smaller V6 in the current 2022 model can do. So there will be no fuel savings for springing for the extra power.

The standard 2023 G90 also gets an upgraded engine, a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, which earns an EPA-estimated rating of 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway. In the smaller luxury sedan G80, that engine produces 375 hp.
