So the base Porsche 911 Carrera is a seriously formidable sports car. It does everything right, including destroying canyon roads, taking road trips, or running errands. Unfortunately, Porsche has arranged its notoriously extensive options list in such a way that you can’t opt ​​for some of the better performance tech unless you spend the extra. cash to the Carrera S.

Except, that hasn’t been quite true since Porsche debuted the 2023 911 Carrera T on Tuesday, and much like the previous 991 generation Tthis is the neun-elfer if you really want to drive it without spending a boatload of extra dollars.

To be clear, the 911 Carrera T is not cheap necessarily, with a starting price of $118,050, including a destination surcharge of $1,450, but compared to the Carrera S without options, which starts at $124,050, it’s a pretty good deal. This is especially true when you look at the unique specifications that Stuttgart has come up with for this T.

For starters, the Carrera T gets the base Carrera’s 379 hp turbocharged flat-six and a standard seven-speed manual transmission. There is also an eight-speed PDK box available for those not inclined to use three pedals. It also gets a mechanical locking differential with torque vectoring, which is available on the S but not available on the Carrera base, and Porsche Active Suspension Management, also known as PASM, with a ride height 10mm lower than standard.

But wait, as they say, there is more. The Sport Chrono package is standard on the T, and you can (and absolutely should) choose Porsche’s excellent four-wheel steering system, which you normally can’t get on a base Carrera. Rad, right? It will be better. The Carrera T weighs in at 3,254 lbs, thanks to reduced noise attenuation, thinner glass, a smaller battery and a rear seat removal. If you want the back seat, you can replace it free of charge. Also standard are a sports exhaust system and a GT steering wheel.

The Carrera T also gets its own visual customizations, such as titanium gray Carrera S wheels, measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear. There are also a number of T-specific dark gray accents in places such as the door mirrors, lower side decals and the rear model designation. Inside, the trim is matte black with a few glossy black bits scattered throughout. The Sport Four-Way bucket seats are standard, but 18-way adjustable sports seats or even Porsche’s gnarled carbon buckets can be chosen. There’s even a Carrera T interior package available as an option, with seat belts in Slate Gray or Lizard Green, stitching and striping on the seats.

Also new for the Carrera T is the availability of Paint-To-Sample, which (for a boatload of extra dollars) opens up the car’s already great color palette (Ruby Star Neo, anyone?) to 110 additional color options.

Porsche expects the Carrera T to be at dealers in the spring of 2023.
