cars.com is back with its American-Made Index, and Alabama is once again prominent in the 2022 ranking.
The list ranks vehicles made and purchased in the US, listing 95 vehicles based on five criteria: assembly location, parts content, engine origin, transmission origin, and US manufacturing personnel.
At the top of the list is Tesla again, with its Model Y. This year, however, all four vehicles of the current vehicle range were in the top 10.
Honda joins Tesla, with four Alabama-made vehicles in the top 10. At number 4 is the Honda Passport SUV, which ranked ninth last year.
Honda’s Ridgeline truck, Odyssey minibus and Pilot mid-sized SUV fill slots eight through ten. They are all made at Honda’s Lincoln factory.
The only vehicles in the top 10 not made by Tesla or Honda are the Lincoln Corsair, made in Louisville, and the Jeep Cherokee, of Belvidere, Illinois.
Alabama-made vehicles also have a healthy representation outside the top 10. Hyundai’s Santa Fe SUV, made in Montgomery, checks in at number 39, while the Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup is a few places lower at number 43, and the Hyundai Tucson compact SUV is number 48, in the first year of the survey.
From Vance, the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV is number 51. Another newcomer to the list is the Toyota Corolla Cross, the SUV produced in Huntsville. The Mercedes GLS SUV is at number 68, while the Hyundai Elantra is at number 95.
