7 of the best cars to enjoy in the summer

Volkswagen Multivan.

Summer is coming – and with it the potential for sunnier days and more opportunities to get out and explore. Taking to the road is one of the best ways to do that, with a motor and four wheels that let you see here, there and everywhere. So, which car should you choose? Well, with all sorts of options and all shapes and sizes available, let’s dive in and see which ones work out best…

1. Volkswagen Multivan

A van is one of the best multi-purpose options out there, offering space, versatility and tons of trunk space. The Multivan is one of the latest to appear, replacing the older Caravelle as Volkswagen’s premium passenger option.

It has a lot of space inside, thanks to a new platform, but because it is based on the same underpinnings as the latest one golfis still refined and easy to drive, so those longer adventures should blow by.

2. Skoda Enyaq iV

An electric car may not be the first choice for summer adventures, but with a range of more than 500 kilometers the Enyaq iV from Skoda goes against the trend. Like other EVs, it also has a surprising amount of performance, but a spacious cabin means there’s plenty of room for the whole family. Like all other Skoda models, it has a lot of standard equipment and a state-of-the-art cabin.

3.Mazda MX-5

If wind in your hair (if you’ve got any left) thrills are what you’re looking for, the MX-5 could be the car for you. Mazda’s tiny two-seater has been a popular summer option for years, but the latest model is still just as good, thanks to a punchy 2.0-litre engine and a simple, no-nonsense roof mechanism.

It’s also great to drive, but the decent efficiency of that engine and the low cost of parts means it doesn’t cost the earth to run either.

4. Jaguar F-type

A more premium approach is the Jaguar F-Type. It remains the company’s flagship sports car and is both easy to drive and very comfortable. Available as a coupé and a convertible, the F-Type is a great all-rounder. We especially love the V8-powered model, which brings some serious old-school muscle car charm.

5. Land Rover Defender

If adventure is the name of the game, then the Land Rover Defender is the car you’re looking for. The latest incarnation of the famed four-wheel drive may have refinement and technology on its side, but it’s still equipped with the prowess to tackle even the trickiest of conditions.

Available in 90 and 110 wheelbases – although a longer, roomier 130 version is coming soon – the Defender is a multi-talented option.

6. Peugeot 308 SW

Quirky looks are something you often associate with Peugeot models, and nowhere is that more evident than with the latest 308. For this list, we’d opt for the roomier SW version, which results in greater boot space and greater ease of use.

We’d say the estate looks even better than the hatchback, with its long, sloping proportions that look seriously good on the road.

7. Ford Ranger Raptor

Finally, we have the Ford Ranger Raptor. The previous generation Raptor made a name for itself as a tough pickup truck, and this latest version wanted to pick up where that truck left off. It still comes equipped with some serious mechanics that can be used anywhere, including an upgraded suspension with a lot of trip

But the real change here is the fitment of a new V6 petrol engine, replacing the old truck’s diesel unit. With 284 horsepower, it has a lot of performance to offer, that’s for sure.
