AA DRIVEN COTY: The Best Luxury Cars of the Year - News

Luxury vehicles are all about sophistication, atmosphere, the latest technology… and the feeling of being very special. In this AA-DRIVEN car of the year category, we tend to focus on vehicles that are in the over $100,000 category; they don’t have to start there, but we’re definitely talking models worth a six-figure price tag.

The BMW iX represents the German manufacturer’s vision for the future of its battery electric vehicles (BEVs), including a bold (some say outrageous) new look that’s already starting to trickle down to smaller models like the X1.

We’re impressed by the iX’s presence, state-of-the-art technology and clean approach to luxury motoring.

The Lexus NX is technically a mid-size SUV, but it fits the luxury brief perfectly, delivering the virtues and character we’ve come to expect from Toyota’s luxury branch.

It looks distinctive, its build quality puts many super luxury brands to shame and the new range gives buyers more choice of eco powertrains, with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) flagship version now available alongside the proven hybrid electrified vehicle of the brand (HEV) technology.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 is another hugely important and impressive BEV.

It follows the EQC, EQA and EQB SUVs, but is actually built on the brand’s first bespoke BEV platform. Introduced to NZ only in sporty AMG form for now (other versions to come), the EQS has an otherworldly look, a specification level equivalent to the conventional S-Class saloon and some incredible new tech, such as the dashboard hyperscreen that extends the full width of the cabin and gives the front passenger their own infotainment menus and controls.
