Audi Vehicles Earn Top IIHS Award

Source: Road Safety Insurance Institute Announcement

ARLINGTON, Va. – Three Audi models, the A3 mid-size luxury car and the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback electric mid-size luxury SUVs, received the TOP SAFETY PICK+ Awards of 2022 from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

To earn one of the Institute’s two awards this year, a vehicle must achieve good ratings in six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including front with small overlap on driver’s side, front with small overlap on passenger side, front with moderate overlap on front side, original side, roof strength and head restraint testing. It should also be available with a frontal crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian ratings.

The lower level TOP SAFETY PICK requires at least one good or acceptable headlamp system to be available. The higher level TOP SAFETY PICK+ requires good or acceptable headlamps to be standard for all versions.

The 2023 models of all three vehicles meet the requirements for the highest award. Each comes with a standard front-end collision avoidance system that earns a superior rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation and an advanced rating in the vehicle-to-pedestrian daytime test. Well-reviewed headlamps are standard on all trims on the A3. The two electric SUVs are available with highly rated LED projector headlamps and acceptable LED reflector headlamps, depending on trim level.

The TOP SAFETY PICK+ award also applies to the 2022 Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, while poor ratings for two available headlamp systems prevent the 2022 A3 from earning the “plus”. The Premium Plus trim of the 2022 A3, which comes with well-rated headlamps, earns a lower TOP SAFETY PICK award.
