Car dealers are celebrating Independence Day with discounted prices on select new cars now over the holiday weekend. This year the fireworks may not be as rosy as they have been in years past, with the auto industry dealing with chip shortages, inflation hitting material costs and reduced inventories. But Consumer Reports’ analysis shows that there are still some deals available on good cars and SUVs if you know where to look.
To find the best auto deals for July 4, analysts at Consumer Reports studied national incentives to find models worth considering. To ensure that the SUVs featured represent smart purchases, we focused on models with a strong Total score, taking into account road test performance, owner satisfaction, reliability and safety. All models below have nationwide incentives valid through July 5, 2022. Vehicles are listed in order of percentage of potential savings on the sticker price, from 9 percent to 5 percent. Similar discounts can be found on other versions, in addition to the specific equipment and configuration that we highlight.
Many models are staples to these lists, such as the Cadillac XT5† Chevrolet Equinoxand Dodge Charger† It is surprising to see that Toyota Prius Prime carry incentives, given current gas prices. Beware that stock nationwide is very low on that plug-in hybrid. But if you find one, it looks like you can get a good price.
There may be regional deals that exceed this national offering.
