Fuel economy is the top priority for drivers in the 2022 AAA Car Guide

From AAA

First of all, new car buyers want two things on their next trip: better fuel economy and more safety features for driver assistance.

According to AAA, nearly 80% of motorists want automakers to focus on improving fuel economy. Another 76% want active driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as automatic emergency braking, lane assist and adaptive cruise control. Addressing these twin needs can be achieved with the latest batch of EVs (electric vehicles), which are often the most technologically advanced and economical.

In 2021, sales of electric vehicles rose to nearly 477,000, representing 3.3% of total car sales, a whopping 81.5% more than in 2020. Many of the world’s largest automakers have announced plans to reduce production of electric vehicles. dramatically increase electric vehicles or phase out gasoline-powered vehicles completely by 2035.

“Electric vehicle sales, though small, are growing, and the signs are everywhere that the future is electric,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “And that future may come faster as consumer preferences change due to factors such as high gas prices and the gradual phasing out of gasoline-powered vehicles in some areas.”
