Global NCAP Car Rating: Top 5 Safest SUVs to Buy in India Under Rs 15 Lakh – Skoda, Tata & More | car news

The Global New Car Assessment Program (Global NCAP) is an independent body that tests their safety around the world. Unlike Euro NCAP, Latin NCAP and ASEAN NCAP, Global NCAP tests vehicles from countries where there is no government-mandated safety authority. While India will soon get its own safety rating system called Bharat NCAP under the Safer Cars for India program, Global NCAP is testing several vehicles launched in India made by an Indian or international car manufacturer. As part of the same campaign, Global NCAP recently announced the latest rounds of testing in which Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq received a full 5-star safety rating.

Not only this, these SUVs scored the highest points of all the cars tested, changing the whole list of the safest vehicles in India. Being SUVs, the safety of these vehicles makes more sense as it is the fastest growing body segment in India. Hence, we are listing the top 5 safest SUVs to buy in India under Rs 15 lakh. In addition to Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq, the list includes two cars from Tata Motors and one SUV from Mahindra, both Indian automakers. It should be noted that the organization has more than 50 Indian cars crash-tested in the ‘Safer Cars for India’ program.

Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq top the list of safest cars in Global NCAP’s crash test campaign in India. After being tested with the updated Global NCAP safety standards, these cars achieved the highest safety ratings of any car sold in India. The cars scored 29.64 for adult occupant protection and 42 points for child protection. Both cars were launched in India in the mid-sized SUV segment and have a starting price of Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Tata Punch

Before Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq received top awards from Global NCAP, Tata Punch SUV happened to be the safest car in India. The subcompact SUV scored 16.45 points out of 17 for adult occupant protection and 40.89 points out of 49 for child occupant protection. The price starts below Rs 7 lakh and is a good buy for anyone looking for a safe SUV under Rs 10 lakh.

In fourth place after Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Tata Punch is another Indian car, the Mahindra XUV300, which scored 16.42 out of 17 points for adults and 37.44 out of 39 points for child protection. The Mahindra XUV300 was also once the top-rated SUV in India and is a compact SUV that can be bought under Rs 10 lakh.

5. Tata Nexon

Last on the list is Tata Nexon’s compact SUV, the first five-star SUV in India, and also the oldest car on the list. Although, point by point, Tata Altroz is the 5th safest car in India, it is a hatchback and that is why Tata Nexon replaces the Altroz as the safest SUV in India. With 16.06 out of 17 points for adult occupant protection and 25 out of 49 for child safety, the Tata Nexon is also one of the best-selling SUVs in India.
