Kia India reports an 18% increase in car sales in April, Seltos remains the largest contributor, Auto News, ET Auto

Kia India had a strong market share of 6.5% in April 2022, which is 0.9% higher than its market share in the same period last year, according to a company release.

New Delhi: South Korean automaker Kia India today reported that April sales rose 18% year-on-year to 19,019 units.

While the automaker had shipped 16,111 units to dealers by April 2021.

According to the automaker, Seltos continued to be the largest contributor to Kia’s total sales with 7,506 units, while Sonet and Carnival contributed 5,404 and 355 units, respectively. The Carens shipment launched in mid-February and totaled 5,754 units, it added.

“Kia India has sold an average of nearly 20,000 units each month in 2022 and it has been a healthy year for us,” said Kia India, VP and Head, Sales & Marketing, Hardeep Singh Brar in a statement.

The company is facing overwhelming demand for its vehicles and is consistently optimizing production to keep wait time in check, he added.

“At Kia India, we believe that we must consistently develop ourselves, which is why we are bringing the most hi-tech Kia ever made to our discerning Indian customers. With EV6, we are entering India’s EV space, which has shown great potential” Brar noted. †

The automaker also recently announced its entry into the EV space, saying it will launch the Kia EV6 in India very soon. With the EV6, Kia India aims to offer premium mobility solutions to its Indian customers. Only 100 units of the vehicle will be sold in India and the booking will begin on May 26, 2022, the automaker said.

The company had sold 9,072 units domestically in the same month last year, HCIL said in a statement.

Domestic sales fell 10% to 44,001 units in March 2021, from 49,002 units in April 2021, the company reported.
