EVs in India: Nitin Gadkari says Indian automakers have the ability to make the world’s best electric cars

New Delhi: Whether electric car maker Tesla comes to India or not, the Union’s Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari believes the automakers in the country can produce a better vehicle. His statement comes after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last month that his company will not place a factory in a location where we are not allowed to sell and service cars first.
Speaking at an event after witnessing a vehicle crash test in Pune on Saturday, Gadkari stated that the government has never favored a company that manufactures and sells its cars in China, adding that Indian automakers are very capable are the world’s best electric cars.

“We have all car brands here. It doesn’t matter if one or two of them are not there. We told a company that manufacturing in China and selling cars doesn’t work here (China mein banakar yahan bechoge, aisa nehin jamega). If you want to come here, make it in India,” the union minister said.

He also radiated confidence that our automakers can make better vehicles than others. We have young talented designers and they are doing better.
