After Sara Evansestranged husband, Harry “Jay” Barkerwas arrested over an alleged domestic violence incident, he will not be jailed.
According to court documents obtained by: We Weekly, the former footballer, 49, admitted to a best-interest plea and agreed to a felony, reckless charge of endangerment rather than aggravated assault. According to court documents, Barker was sentenced to one year of probation during which he must confiscate all weapons and complete a 26-week intervention program for assaulters.
U.S confirmed in January that Barker, who married the 50-year-old country singer earlier in 2008, was taken into police custody after allegedly trying to hit Evans with his car.
After the “A Little Bit Stronger” singer left a party at her neighbor’s early in the morning, she found that Barker was “reversing at high speed,” according to an affidavit obtained by the local news outlet. WIAT† The report indicated that Barker tried to hit Evans – and her boyfriend in the car – “but missed”.
As the former University of Alabama quarterback reportedly drove off, Evans called police. Barker was then booked on his return home by local police officers and placed on hold for 12 hours for domestic violence. Later that night, he was released on $10,000 bail.
“I feel incredibly humbled by the support I have received from friends, supporters and so many in the Alabama family,” said the Jay Barker Show host wrote via his radio show’s Instagram after his release. “We all face challenges in life, and my family and I are now facing them. Unfortunately, headlines and quickly published news stories do not capture the full context and complex structure of our lives. I love my family very much and at this difficult time I respectfully ask for privacy for the sake of my family and especially our children.”
The Dancing with the stars alum and Barker — who shares four children with ex-wife Amy DiGiovanna – divorced in April 2021 before the “Born to Fly” singer filed for divorce in August.
Evans, for her part, has not yet spoken publicly about Barker’s arrest or the pending divorce proceedings. (Evans was previously married to) Craig Schelske from 1993 to 2007, with whom she shares three daughters.)
The ‘Infinite Love’ artist and her estranged partner were initially introduced as they each went through their respective breakups before mingling their brood.
“I’ve always liked Alabama,” she recalls Birmingham magazine in 2015 about moving from Tennessee with Barker and their children. “When I lived in Nashville and went to the beach, I loved driving around Alabama. Where we live feels like a small town. The people here are so friendly. I have four or five friends who are very close. Our kids all play sports, our families get together and have fun. People think I’m always touring, but most of the time I’m here. I used to take my kids on tours – now that they’re older I can’t do that anymore.”
We Weekly has contacted Evans and Barker for comment, who did not immediately respond.
