Tata Motors sold 47,505 units of passenger cars last month, of which electric vehicles contributed more than eight percent.
Tata Motors, one of the top three automakers in India, posted an impressive 57 percent increase in passenger car sales in July. The automaker sold 47,505 units last month, compared to 30,185 units in the same period last year. In total, Tata Motors sold 81,790 vehicles in July, including commercial vehicles and export units. Total sales are also up 51 percent, compared to 54,119 units in July last year.
The biggest jump in sales for Tata Motors last month was in the electric passenger car segment. With 4,022 Nexon EVs and Tigor EVs sold, Tata Motors posted a massive 566 percent increase in EV sales, compared to just 604 units in July last year. In the passenger car segment, Tata Motors’ electric vehicles contributed to more than eight percent of total sales last month.
This was the best month ever for Tata Motors electric vehicles. It surpassed the previous best month of sales in June, when the automaker had sold 3,507 units. Tata Motors is currently the leader in the electric passenger car segment with a market share of more than 80 percent. The automaker closed the first quarter of the fiscal year with 9,300 EVs sold between April and June. It has now risen to more than 13,000 units in the current fiscal year, which is more than half the number of electric cars Tata Motors sold in the previous fiscal year.
In June, Tata Motors posted an 87 percent increase in sales with 45,197 units sold. Compared to June, Tata Motors’ turnover decreased slightly last month.
In commercial vehicles, Tata Motors posted a healthy 43 percent increase in July. Tata sold 34,154 units last month, compared to 23,848 units sold in the same period last year.
