The Tesla Model 3 was among the top 10 best-selling cars in 2021, according to new data.
An analysis of car sales in 2021 compiled by @lovecarindustry shows that the Model 3 was in 9th place on a list of the world’s best-selling vehicles, with sales of about 508,000 units last year.
The numbers were good enough to represent the Model 3 on the Honda Accord and Honda Civic Sedan, and were complemented by the 40 percent increase in all-electric sedan sales in 2021 compared to 2020.
NEWS: According to @lovecarindustryTesla Model 3 was the 8th best-selling car worldwide in 2021, and is expected to enter the top 5 later in 2022, surpassing the Ford F-150.

The Model 3 entered Tesla’s lineup in 2018 and became the company’s best seller thanks to the company’s ability to offer the vehicle at a price much lower than previous releases. The Model S and Model X were part of the company’s lineup prior to the Model 3 both years and were a more luxurious offering than the mass-market sedan, but were certainly at a much higher price point.
The vehicle has almost single-handedly brought Tesla and other electric car companies into relevance. Although Tesla gets credit for building and developing the vehicle, it disrupted so many companies and their ability to sell comparable sedans because people were sold when they realized they never had to visit a gas pump again. Here we are, four years later, and the throttle is higher than ever, and the Model 3 continues to sell like hotcakes.
Tesla’s Model Y also cracked the Top 20 for the first time in its short history. The Model Y, first delivered in early 2020, racked up 392,000 sales in 2021, good enough for 19th on the list. Model Y sales increased 412 percent in 2021 compared to 2020.
The data was collected on FiatWorldGroup by author Felipe and represents data from 106 total markets representing 99.32 percent of total auto sales.
