Thanks to Electrify America, one of the country’s largest networks of EC charging stations, it is possible to traverse the country’s eastern corridor on a zero-emission road trip. Cruise I-95 on this adventure from Maine to Miami, and you’ll find charging stations nearly every 70 miles.
If the thought of a multi-state trek sounds exhausting, consider splitting the trip into three geographic sections. The first part visits the historic coastal towns of New England. Eat a lobster roll in Portland, Maine’s most populous beach town, before heading south to Boston. Recharge in Providence, RI, or along the windswept Long Beach in Stratford, CT, before leaving the Atlantic coast.
Compare the former capitals of America on the second leg of the journey. The first is NYC. Recharge in Fort Lee, NJ, before passing through Trenton and Philadelphia. Break open a blue crab shell in shabby Baltimore, before heading to Washington, DC.
The southern portion of the road trip passes through Richmond, Virginia – a city steeped in Revolutionary War history and covered in modern murals. As you drive through North Carolina and South Carolina, leave I-95 to experience the college town charisma of Raleigh and sip sweet tea on a side porch in Charleston. A ghost tour for adults only to haunted pubs in Savannah, Georgia will energize you before driving along Florida’s Atlantic coast. Grab lunch at Jacksonville’s Five Points, the city’s super-cool epicenter, then descend on I-95 through suburban beach towns to Miami. End the epic adventure by jumping into the electric blue waters of South Beach. Florida’s warm ocean is a long way from Maine’s icy shores.
