Audi has successfully exploited its minimalist style and Quattro four-wheel drive technology to create a compelling image of modernity and innovation, making it one of the most successful luxury brands today.
The range is packed with incredibly capable vehicles. Most of them, like the A4 sedan and the Q7 SUV, are so good at everything that they come across as cold and clinical.
Audi has entered the race for EV dominance, and its second electric vehicle in the United States is a mid-sized luxury crossover SUV coupe.
The Audi E-Tron Sportback is the ideal combination of a popular crossover SUV style and a state-of-the-art electric motor. The E-Tron Sportback’s range isn’t quite as impressive as the Tesla Model X or Model Y, but it makes up for it with excellent ride comfort, a beautiful cabin and plenty of standard technology.
The E-Tron SUV is about the same size as the BMW X5 (and iX), Mercedes-Benz GLE and Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it rides lower than those vehicles. This is further emphasized in the sportier Sportback variant.
The E-Tron SUV and Sportback are similar in size and shape. They fit right in between the brand’s Q5 and Q7 SUVs, albeit with a slightly lower stance, reminiscent of Audi’s Allroad cars.
Let’s take a look at some standout features of the 2022 Audi E-Tron Sportback.
The 2022 Audi E-Tron Sportback has one of the best, if not the best safety and infotainment system
The infotainment system in each E-Tron is controlled by two touchscreens, one at the top and one at the bottom, with a 10.1-inch display at the top and an 8.8-inch unit at the bottom.
The top screen gives access to the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, as well as the available Bang & Olufsen music system. The Sportback mainly uses the lower screen for climate control. The system includes a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and plenty of power outlets; a wireless phone charger is optional.
When it comes to safety, the 2022 E-Tron Sportback gets a perfect ten for its comprehensive safety measures and excellent crash test results.
Active lane control and the automated emergency braking system are standard features on the E-Tron line. The Prestige and Premium models have an optional Driver Assistance Plus package with adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.
The federal government gives the 2022 E-Tron Sportback an overall five-star rating, with frontal impact only getting four stars as a minor flaw.
The E-Tron was the first EV to receive the Top Safety Pick+ label from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In each test category, the 2022 E-Tron Sportback received the highest and superior ratings.
The Audi E-Tron Sportback from 2022 is spacious and offers more comfort
The E-Tron Sportback offers enough space, comfort and silence for a relaxed ride. It is a family-friendly five-seat SUV that, despite its streamlined appearance, comfortably accommodates five adults.
Audi’s E-Tron Sportback seems like the ideal compromise between Audi’s sedans and SUVs. Front seats with excellent support, ideal for long car journeys, put you a little closer to the dashboard than in other cars, but without sacrificing space, and offer the SUVs excellent sightlines.
In the front there is more than enough head and legroom for tall passengers and there is also enough space in the back. Rear legroom is similar to the standard E-Tron, but rear headroom has been reduced by about an inch or two due to the Sportback’s sloping roofline. Access to the rear seat has to bend a little.
The base model includes eight-way power front seats with four-way power lumbar support, leather seats and heated front seats.
The Premium Plus option includes ventilated front seats with 18-way electrical adjustment.
The Prestige adds massaging front seats in perforated Valcona leather, along with driver and passenger memory.
The 2022 Audi E-Tron Sportback offers enviable electric performance
The E-Tron Sportback is even faster this year with the launch of Audi E-Tron S variants for 2022. These models feature a three-motor system with up to 496 hp and 718 lb-ft of torque, allowing the E-Tron S to reach 100 km /h in about 4.3 seconds.
The E-Tron Sportback’s front and rear motors provide a combined power of 402 horsepower and 490 pound-feet of torque, and peak power is delivered 8 seconds at a time, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of 5. 5 seconds.
The driving experience in the E-Tron Sportback is quiet, responsive and capable of moving as fast, if not faster, than most premium cars. The whole system performs differently from the rest of the series, with the front motor turned off until needed, resulting in a uniquely dynamic experience.
Despite its lack of maneuverability, the E-Tron Sportback is quite agile and easy to park on tight streets and in parking lots. The low center of gravity gives it a stable and confident feeling.
All things considered, this car is a masterpiece. It offers a lot and without fail.
