These are the best Italian cars of the past decade

Ferrari LaFerrari - Front

If you asked a group of gearboxes to name the largest automakers in the world, most would include Italy in their top three. We don’t blame them, as Italy is home to iconic car manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Alfa Romeo. Italian car manufacturers have always pushed the boundaries of design, engineering and power when building their cars, which is why they are loved in every corner of the world.

Over the past decade, Italian manufacturers have built many fantastic models that show that they are still the kings of the industry. From some of the fastest supercars to beautiful super sedans, hybrid supercars and some of the coolest electric hypercars, these are ten of the best Italian sports cars produced over the past decade.

10 Ferrari LaFerrari

The LaFerrari marveled at the gears when it debuted in 2013. Like its predecessors, the Enzo, F50, F40 and 288 GTO, the LaFerrari was part of Ferrari’s Halo Series, which aims to bring advanced racing technologies to a road car.

However, the LaFerrari had one major change from its predecessor; it was a hybrid. The heart of the LaFerrari is formed by a 6.3-litre V12 combined with one electric motor, resulting in a total output of 950 hp. With a 0-60 of 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 218 mph, the LaFerrari is one of the fastest Italian cars ever made.

9 Lamborghini Aventador

The Aventador picked up where its predecessor, the Murcielago, left off when it debuted in 2011. Every gear stick loved its wedge-shaped design and the fact that it was one of the few supercars that still used a huge naturally aspirated V12 engine.

Lamborghini has produced several versions of the Aventador over the past decade, the best being the Ultimae. The Ultimae is the final form of the Aventador and is powered by the same engine as the Aventador SVJ; a 6.5-liter L539 V12 with 769 horsepower.

8 Alfa Romeo 4C

The first thing that comes to mind when mentioning Alfa Romeo in most gearboxes is beauty. Alfa Romeo has built many beautiful sports cars over the years, including the Tipo 33 Stradale, 8C, Spider and this beauty — the 4C.

The 4C was a strong seller for Alfa Romeo from 2013 to 2020, thanks in large part to its excellent design and affordability compared to other Italian sports cars. While the turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine makes just 237 horsepower, that’s plenty considering the 4C weighs less than 2,000 lbs.

7 Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta

When Horacio Pagani founded Pagani in the mid-1990s, he wanted to build some of the best European supercars ever seen. A few years later, Pagani showed he meant business when he unveiled the fantastic Zonda. Despite costing millions, the Zonda was a huge hit and remained in production until 2019.

Several versions of the Zonda have been produced during two decades of production, and the HP Barchetta is arguably the best. Introduced in 2017, the HP Barchetta was a celebration of Horacio Pagani’s 60th birthday and a celebration of the Zonda’s 18th birthday.

6 Pininfarina Battista

Pininfarina needs no introduction. Over the past century, Pininfarina has come up with some of the most beautiful car designs for Ferrari and other companies. In 2020, however, Pininfarina decided to build his own supercar from scratch, resulting in the Battista.

The Battista is based on: the Rimac Nevera but has a unique body that is arguably better looking. It’s powered by four electric motors that together generate an insane 1,877 horsepower, giving it a 0-60 in under 2 seconds and a top speed of 250 mph.

5 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Another car that shows that Alfa Romeo designers know what they are doing is the Giulia, a four-door compact luxury sedan that debuted in 2015. The Giulia is definitely one of the most beautiful sedans ever built.

The Giulia also offers excellent performance, especially for buyers who opt for the premium Quadrifoglio equipment. Powered by an all-aluminium twin-turbocharged V6 rated at 503 horsepower, the Giulia is insanely fast.

4 pagani huayra

After the enormous success of the Zonda, Pagani knew there had to be a worthy successor, so they built the Huayra. There is much debate about how to pronounce the word ‘Huayra’, but one thing is clear: the Huayra is a beauty with the power to match.

Like the Zonda, the Huayra is powered by a Mercedes-Benz sourced V12 with 730 horsepower on tap, mated to a seven-speed sequential gearbox. It’s no surprise that the Huayra is one of the most expensive Italian cars ever.

3 Ferrari SF90 Stradale

The SF90 Stradale is only a few years old, but it is already one of the most important Ferraris ever made. The SF90 Stradale is the very first plug-in hybrid from the Italian brand and it shows that they are looking to the future.

The SF90 Stradale is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine assisted by three electric motors. With a combined output of 986 horsepower, the SF90 Stradale is the most powerful Ferrari ever made.

2 Lamborghini Sian FKP-37

The aforementioned Aventador has spawned several limited edition versions over the past decade, including the Veneno, Centenario and this beast – the Sian FKP-37. We chose the Sian over the others for one reason: it’s Lamborghini’s first-ever hybrid supercar.

At the heart of the Sian is one of the most advanced hybrid powertrains we’ve seen; a 6.5-litre V12 engine combined with an electric motor that uses a supercapacitor instead of the more common lithium-ion batteries

1 Maserati GranTurismo

Maserati has had quite a few ups and downs in recent decades. The GranTurismo is one of the ups. Launched in 2007, the GranTurismo was a huge success for Maserati and is still in production today.

There’s a lot to love about the GranTurismo, starting with its beautiful Pininfarina-written design. The GranTurismo is also a joy to drive, thanks to a Ferrari-produced 4.7-litre V8 engine producing 454 hp.
