The winners of the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) 2022 Car of the Year competition were announced via social media for the first time. Automotive influencers and content creators voted digitally to determine SA’s best new models this year across various categories. Prizes were also awarded for the best original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
Wheels24 editor Janine Van der Post is one of the 25 judges of the SAGMJ Car of the Year competition, she shares her thoughts on this year’s winners: “The judges were just as excited to see who the winners would be in each category of the 2022 competition .
“It’s great to see the Toyota Corolla Cross as a worthy contender and the overall winner. It’s made more people feel like it’s a people’s car that wears the crown. While previous winners have all been outstanding and scored highly in their categories, the Corolla Cross is more in line with what is the best car on the market – based on value for money, overall sales and simply an all round worthy winner.
“I am also delighted to see the Peugeot 208 as the Motor Enthusiasts Choice Award. It was one of my top picks in this year’s competition. The Nissan Navara is another good surprise.”
