Top 5 Sub-Compact Sedans to Buy in the Used Car Market

When looking for an entry-level used car, the most common choice is a hatchback. However, they don’t really meet everyone’s needs. Most are not really spacious enough for a family and the trunk space is always limited. So if you are also looking for an entry-level compact used car that can also be a family car, we recommend that you go for a sub-compact sedan. They’re compact enough to drive in traffic situations, yet offer plenty of room for those weekend getaways. While you’ll find a ton of options in the used car market, here are 5 cars we think you should consider.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Depending on the model year and condition of the car, you can get a used Maruti Suzuki Dzire for around Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 7 million.

The Dzire is one of the best selling cars in India and is the ultimate car if you are looking for a spacious and economical sedan. The cabin comfortably accommodates 4 people and while the current third-generation model offers a decent 378 liters of luggage space, the older model offered 464 liters of luggage space. You will find both the 1.2-litre petrol and the now-discontinued 1.3-litre diesel option in the used car market. Depending on the model year and condition of the car, you can get a used Maruti Suzuki Dzire for around Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 7 million.

Honda Amaze

You can get a used Amaze for Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, depending on the model year and condition of the car.

The Honda Amaze is yet another good option to go for. While the current generation model offers decent space with the right exterior proportions, the previous generation Amaze had a quirky design and a spacious cabin. The fit and finish of both are nice, and both versions come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. While the older Amaze only offered a CVT automatic with the petrol model as an option, the current generation Amaze also gets a CVT with the diesel option. In fact, it is the first and only CVT diesel model in this space. You can get a used Amaze for Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, depending on the model year and condition of the car.

Ford Aspire

You can get one for about Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh depending on condition and model year.

The Ford Aspire was one of the nicer sedans in the entry-level segment. The car came with a good fit and finish, and a solid build, and had that distinctive look of an American sedan. Unfortunately, Ford discontinued the car after local production ended last year. That said, you can still find the Aspire in the used car market. It was offered in both a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Our choice would be the latter. You can get one for about Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh depending on condition and model year.

Hyundai Xcent/Aura

While you can get a used Hyundai Xcent for around Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh, a used Aura costs about Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 9 pounds.

The Hyundai Xcent was introduced to rival the Dzire and the car has quite a decent run. A few years ago it was replaced by its new generation avatar, the Hyundai Aura. The car was offered in both petrol and diesel engine options, and you will find a large number of Xcent sedans in the used car market. It offered a spacious cabin and good performance. Depending on the model year and condition of the car, you can get one for around Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 million. You can also search for the Aura. It comes with better styling, premium fit and finish, and modern comfort. However, the car is quite new and will be available in very limited numbers, and even a used Aura will be priced around Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 9 pounds.

Tata Tigor

You can get a used Tata Tigor for Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 6.5 million.

Launched in India in 2017, the Tata Tigor subcompact sedan is a very capable and safe car. It has received a 4-star safety rating from the Global NCAP and is very sturdy when it comes to build quality. The Tigor is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes with a manual and AMT gearbox. The pre-facelift model also came with a diesel engine, which will also be available in the used car market. You can get a used Tigor for Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 6.5 million.
