What is the best concept car that never went into production?

It is criminal that this car was never for sale.

We’ve seen some pretty awesome concept cars over the years. Things like the original Dodge Viper designs and the Toyota FT1, which would become the latest Supra. These cars were pleasing to the eye as sketches and models, and even better when they hit the streets as production cars. But not every concept can be so lucky.

Instead, some design studies of car manufacturers are prepared, cast from clay, presented to the world, and then forget. So, what do you think is the best concept car that never went into production?

Maybe you were a sucker for that angry looking sedan that Lamborghini wanted build in the mid-2000s? The Estoque was the Italian brand’s answer to cars like the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapidebut ultimately never taken off the exhibition stand.

And, more recently, what about? the next generation Phaeton that VW privately built? That was another excellent design study that could never feel the road under its wheels.

Clear, the winner here is the Jaguar C-X75. Unveiled in 2010, this car promised to be a next-generation hybrid supercar that could rival Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren.

Despite the company initially agreeing to a production run of this beautiful mid-engine supercar, the project was canned before potential buyers could grab their checkbooks. Instead, it will go down in history as “that orange car the bad guy drives in Spectre.”

But that’s my choice, what concepts do you think should have been released into the wild? Head over to the comments section below and let us know your pick of the best concept car that never went into production.

Tomorrow afternoon we will collect some of the best responses in a slideshow.
