A Stellantis press release claims that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Hybrid was the best-selling eco-friendly off-road car. The average time to bring the green off-roader home is 10.5 days. The Hyundai Sante Fe, which sells in 12.8 days, and the Toyota RAV4 Prime (for an average of 13.7 days) are two other popular hybrid SUVs this year.
According to studies, all hybrid vehicles are in high demand. Still, Jeep will likely take the top spot because of the Wrangler’s off-road capabilities. While I’m aware that not many people are fans of PHEVs, they won’t go away anytime soon, and several models could see solid sales for years to come.
Everyone loves the Jeep Wrangler 4xe
‘s Aggressive Leases Stallantis probably played an important role in the success of the model. How aggressive? For 36 months, you can expect to pay about $265 per month, with $3,985 due at signing. This is on a Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe costing $51,300. It also includes Jeep’s $1,495 destination fee.
The Toyota RAV4 Prime is also a popular model among the public that retails for $39,425, including the $1,175 destination surcharge. The monthly lease payment for this vehicle would be $444. It is available for lease for 36 months and 12,000 miles per year. $3,094 payments are due upon signing. With this price difference, it’s a simple decision.
Rather than buying them directly, we don’t know how many Wrangler 4xe Jeeps have leased. It would be reasonable to assume that leases account for a significant portion of total Wrangler sales of 69,020 units in the first quarter. Stellantis’s stated that Jeep sold 8,346 Wrangler plug-in hybrids in the first quarter of 2022. This accounted for 18% of Wrangler sales. Also notable is the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Jeep’s sibling, which accounted for 4,164 sales in the first quarter of 2022, 16% of Pacifica’s total. In the first quarter, Toyota reported 5,233 sales of the plug-in hybrid.
What does all this mean for consumers? It is a very affordable way to buy a Wrangler with above average fuel economy. If you are looking for cheap used cars, there will probably be many Wrangler 4xe models soon.
Toyota said it plans to produce 20,000 units of the coveted RAV4 Prime annually. However, it has shown no signs of a significant increase in that number. It is the most popular vehicle in America and has the largest percentage of hybrid sales. So it’s hard to argue that there isn’t enough demand. Volvo claims that more than a quarter of its sales are Recharge models, including all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars. However, the total 6,018 plug-ins do not match those of a single Jeep model.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is an off-road-ready hybrid
The most efficient Jeep available, the Wrangler 4xe, is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. It makes 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. You can drive up to 49 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent) and 21 miles with electric. When an all-wheel drive is used, the 4xe can go from 0 to 60 mph in just six seconds.
Plug-in hybrids combine the best of both electric and gas vehicles. They provide efficient electric-only use in the city and take away the fear of long journeys when the petrol engine fires. Charging time for a 110-volt outlet takes 12 hours, while Level 2 charging at 220 amps takes just two hours. Average drivers travel less than 40 miles a day, so the 4xe can cover half that distance without fuel.
This Wrangler’s off-road capability has been enhanced through electrification. With a ground clearance of 10.8 inches, the 4xe can withstand water up to 30 inches. The direct torque from the electric motor makes it ideal for rock climbing. The 4xe is equipped with Dana 44 axles and a 2-speed transfer case for four-wheel drive. You can adjust speed using just your transmission’s manual shift mode, and the engine delivers precise throttle response. Jeep claims the battery can provide hours of off-road riding and plenty of fuel to get you back home. Jeep has also installed public solar chargers at trailheads across America so you can recharge before and after your four-wheel adventures.
The hybrid Wrangler has gas through wire brakes and an electric motor is powered by regenerative braking. The maximum regenerative braking allows driving with one pedal. You can take your foot off the accelerator to slow down the Jeep, but you must use the brake pedal to stop it completely. Jeep Performance Parts offers a 2.0-inch lift kit, including Fox shocks and front lower wishbones, stabilizer bar and shock absorbers, for $1495. Additional performance accessories include tubular steel doors and steel rock rails. The 4xe is available in Sahara and Rubicon trims, and a full electric version is rumored to be called Magneto.
